Business Educator/FBLA Adviser
Welcome! My name is Michele Thurlo and I have been teaching Business and Computers at Milan for 15 years. This year I am teaching Computer Applications, Accounting, Business Leadership, Multimedia and 8th-grade Computers. I am also the High School FBLA Adviser and was named the Missouri Middle School Adviser of the Year in 2017.
I became the business teacher at Milan in 2004. The reason I love teaching is that I want to inspire students to follow their dreams no matter how much work it takes. If you have an idea and truly want to own a business you can make it work if you have enough knowledge and passion. I believe that every person needs to continue to learn throughout their life. I enjoy learning new things every day.
I graduated from Milan C-2 in 1992 and from Missouri Western State University in 1995 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I later attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis to become a certified teacher. In 2010 I received my Masters in Business Administration from William Woods University.
I have always been involved in local businesses. My parents owned a farm supply store (BRACO Farm & Family) since I was 9 years old. My husband has been a partner in North Missouri tire since 1996. In the past, I have worked at both of these businesses, served as City Clerk, been a real estate broker, a newspaper ad designer and I owned a tanning spa. My family also owns a lawn care business and we have a farm. I have recently opened a mobile fashion boutique, Moonshine and Lace Boutique, which was voted Missouri's #1 Mobile Boutique in 2017 and received runner-up in 2018. I have been in direct sales since I was 20 years old, working with Home Interiors & Gifts, Stampin' Up!, BeautiControl and TruAura Beauty. I absolutely love sharing my passion and knowledge of business with my students.
I have been married to Lane for 25 years and I have two children. Weston is a pipefitter, currently living near Phoenix, AZ, and Adri is a Senior here at Milan. In my free time I love to decorate, travel, walk, learn new technology, research genealogy, listen to podcast and of course, I love to work!
