MILAN C-2 SCHOOL CLOSURE 3/17-3/27 AS PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE

March 16, 2020

Parents-Guardians-Community Members,

After receiving guidance from the Sullivan County Health Department, the Milan C-2 School District will cancel all classes beginning on Tuesday, March 17th, 2020 - through Friday, March 27th, 2020 and resume on Monday, March 30th, 2020.

In order to insure students will remain academically engaged - students will receive information to take home today - either hard copy or electronically. Another sharing of information will be disbursed on Thursday, 3/19/20. Due dates and other assignment requests will be shared individually through the building and/or teacher(s).

Staff will be at school throughout the canceled sessions (except for Friday, 3/20 and Monday, 3/22).

All activities and practices (clubs/sports, etc.) will be postponed/suspended until Monday, March 30th, 2020.

The Parent-Teacher Conferences, scheduled for 3/19/20, will be canceled.

We are soliciting options to provide food and/or meals in a structured manner; but do not have any information yet on this endeavor and more information will be provided at a later time.

Contact the school with questions and my last thought is this - In the end, it will be impossible to know if we over reacted or did too much; but it will be quite apparent if we underreact and did too little."

Stay safe, pay attention and don't panic.

MILAN C-2 SCHOOLS COVID 19 MEMO 3-16-20

Parents/Guardians/Community Members -

The Milan C-2 School District has been in constant contact with DESE, the Sullivan County Health Department, other school leaders in the area and the MO state governor's office.

At this time, all Out of district travel and trips will be suspended.

Today, 3/16/20 - school will remain in session and the school will continue to urge appropriate hygiene practices - through hand washing, appropriate cough covering, etc.

This situation will be evaluated on a 'day-by-day' basis. If / when the governor or the Sullivan County Health Department - change their respective stances - our status will likely change immediately.

Thank you for your help as we navigate through this situation.

Dr. Yocom

The below statement/recommendation is from the CDC:

Interim Guidance for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Guidance as of 3/15/2020

Large events and mass gatherings can contribute to the spread of COVID-19 in the United States via travelers who attend these events and introduce the virus to new communities. Examples of large events and mass gatherings include conferences, festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, weddings, and other types of assemblies. These events can be planned not only by organizations and communities but also by individuals.

Therefore, CDC, in accordance with its guidance for large events and mass gatherings, recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizers (whether groups or individuals) cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States.

Events of any size should only be continued if they can be carried out with adherence to guidelines for protecting vulnerable populations, hand hygiene, and social distancing. When feasible, organizers could modify events to be virtual.

This recommendation does not apply to the day to day operation of organizations such as schools, institutes of higher learning, or businesses. This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus. This recommendation is not intended to supersede the advice of local public health officials.

The Milan C-2 Family Will continue to practice preventative health measures and encourage our students to do so as well.
