Title I is the largest federally funded program for elementary and secondary education in the nation. Re-authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), formerly known as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title I funding helps local school divisions provide equal educational opportunities for low-performing students in schools with economic needs. The goal of Title I is to enable all students to be on grade level in reading and mathematics and to meet state and local standards.

IXL is a web-based program that targets MATH for all grades K-12 with problems based on the common core standards. The math problems have a wide variety of question types, from word problems to interactive graphing. A great feature IXL provides is if a child gets the wrong answer, IXL explains why. Students can also choose to watch a video explanation for the problem using different numbers. IXL provides insightful reporting that tracks student progress which helps the teacher provide immediate feedback to students in need.

IXL is not just about helping your kids learn math, it's also about helping them enjoy learning. That means encouraging them to have fun! IXL makes learning fun. Students would much rather be playing on the computer, so let them! Thanks to vibrant images, colorful illustrations, and meaningful content at every turn, learning has never been just so much fun. A Schoolwide Title I program is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to ensure that ALL students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement on State Assessments.

A Schoolwide program uses its federal Title I funding to upgrade the entire education program of the school in order to raise academic achievement for ALL students.

This Schoolwide Reform Strategy Requires That A School:

• Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment

• Identify and commit to specific goals and strategies that address those needs

• Create a comprehensive plan

• Conduct an annual review of the effectiveness of the schoolwide program and revise the plan as necessary

Title I Program Services Include:

Specialized Instruction in Reading and Math includes but is not limited to;

• Limited pull-out instruction

• Small group instruction

• Instructional assistance in the classroom

• After-school learning opportunities, including reading tutoring

ELL Instructional Program

The program for English Language Learners is designed to improve the education of ELL students by assisting them in learning English and meeting state content standards. The ELL curriculum follows grade-level standards of learning and Missouri's English Language Proficiency (ELP) standards.

Senate Bill 319 "Reading Law"

Senate Bill 319 calls for early assessment of students' reading skills and requires school districts to intervene with students who are reading below grade level. The law requires:

• Assessments of students in grades 3-6 to determine their reading levels

• Individualized "Reading Improvement Plans" for students in grades 4-6 who are substantially below grade level in reading

• Additional reading instruction for students with Reading Improvement Plans

• Retention of students in grade 4 if they are reading below the 3rd-grade level. (Several exceptions to this requirement are specified in the law.)

The Milan C-2 School District is required to inform you of certain information that you, according to Public Law 107-110, have a right to know. This information includes:

• If a teacher has met state qualification and licensing criteria for the grade/subject area in which they are providing instruction

• If a teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status

• If your child is provided services by a paraprofessional and if so, their qualifications

• What baccalaureate degree major the teacher has and other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification

In addition, the district must prove to each individual parent

• Information on the achievement level of their child in all assessed academic areas

• Timely notice if a child is taught for 4 or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly-qualified
