🏈✨ It’s that time again — Mr. Football 2026! ✨🏈

Homecoming Week (October 7–9) is about to get even more exciting! The Varsity Cheerleaders will each be carrying a bag representing one of our Senior Football Players. Here’s how to vote:

💵 Vote FOR your favorite player by putting bills in their bag.
🪙 Vote AGAINST a player by adding silver coins to their bag.

Every dollar (and every dime!) helps — all proceeds go to support the Varsity Cheerleaders.

You can cast your votes by bringing them to the High School Office (labeled with your player’s name) or by giving them directly to a Varsity Cheerleader.

🕐 Voting ends at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, and the Mr. Football 2026 Winner will be crowned that evening at the Pep Rally at The Pit! 🎉

Let’s make it a fun and spirited competition — may the best Senior take the title! 💚💛

MILAN C-2 SCHOOLS AWARDED $500,000 GRANT

Grant to Fund New Ballfield Complex

Milan, MO – October 1, 2025 – Milan C-2 Schools is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $500,000 grant to construct a new baseball-softball complex that will serve students, families, and the community for years to come.

The funding, provided by the U.S. Department of Interior and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Division of State Parks Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), will allow the district to move forward with long-awaited plans to expand and improve athletic facilities. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources Division of State Parks Land and Water Conservation Fund received twenty-nine applications with the total amount of funding requested exceeding $8.3 million. Of
those, six projects were submitted to the National Park Service for grant assistance and Milan C-2 School district was one of those recipients. The new complex will include one baseball and one softball field complete with bullpens, scoreboards, and accessible seating. The complex plans include a parking lot to serve both fields and a building for concessions, restrooms, and storage pledged by the Milan Athletic Booster Club.

“This is a tremendous investment in our students and our community,” said Dr. Ashley Pauley, superintendent of Milan C-2 Schools. “Athletics teach teamwork, perseverance, and school pride. This new complex will not only benefit our current students but will also be a resource for generations to come.”

The project is expected to begin this fall with the goal of completion by fall of 2026. In addition to school use, the fields will be available for community programs, youth leagues, and family events, strengthening partnerships between the district and the broader community.

Board of Education President, David Richardson, expressed gratitude for the award: “This grant allows us to provide facilities that reflect the excellence and spirit of our district. We are excited to see these fields become a place where memories are made and milestones are celebrated.”

The district will share updates on the project’s progress through its website, newsletters, and community meetings. Please join us in celebrating this tremendous achievement and positive progress for our school and community.

Homecoming
The 2025 Homecoming theme this year is “The Greatest Homecoming” and will take place the week of October 6th through 10th. The Homecoming game will be played against the Gallatin Bulldogs (Red and Black). The Varsity Cheerleaders have planned theme-related dress-up days for students and faculty to participate in all week long, leading up to Friday night’s game. Milan businesses can once again compete in the 8th Annual Business Window Decorating Contest, and judging will take place on Oct. 6th. New to this year, the judges will also be judging what businesses the students decorate, and the winners will be announced at the pep rally on Thursday night and will be presented with awards.

This year’s homecoming festivities will kick off with a community pep rally on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Cal Hubbard Field. The guest speaker for that evening will be Mr. David Shaw. The Homecoming Queen coronation will also take place that evening.

On Friday, the high school students will be competing against each other (grades) during the 3rd annual HOCO Olympics, where there will be several events and activities during the school day. Winners will be announced at the end of the school day for “bragging rights”.

The parade will begin on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 2:00 pm and will travel the traditional route: starting behind the school, turning north on Market St, and around the square. Participation is encouraged by everyone. Please note: the street behind the school will be closed from 1 pm until the end of the parade. The Grand Marshal of this year’s parade will be Mr. David Shaw. The traditional high school “Battle of the Floats” will take place, with the winner’s float being displayed at the right corner of the football field during the homecoming game. Milan Wildcat Football kick off is at 7 pm, with the Homecoming Queen and her court taking the field at halftime of the football game.

Please join us “under the big top” and support our Milan Wildcats during this exciting time!

🌟 Introducing Mr. David Shaw – 2025 Milan Homecoming Guest Speaker & Grand Marshal! 🌟

We are excited to welcome Mr. David Shaw, a proud graduate of the Milan C-2 Class of 1976, as this year’s Guest Speaker and Grand Marshal of the 2025 Milan Homecoming!

Mr. Shaw is the son of the late Lyle and Betty Rae Shaw and brother to Randy, who lives in Nebraska. During his years at Milan, he participated in football, basketball, and track all four years. He was also a member of the legendary 1975 Milan football team, which became Tri Rivers Conference Champions, District 1 Champions, and placed 3rd in the 1A State Championship. In 2023, he and the entire 1975 football team were inducted into the Milan Athletic Hall of Fame.

After high school, Mr. Shaw earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri and a Master of Administration from Truman State University. He began his career in education in 1981 at the Brookfield School District, where he served as a teacher, coach, and administrator for 30 years.

Today, even in retirement, Mr. Shaw continues to serve his community. He is a member of the Brookfield School Board and the Pershing Memorial Hospital Board, in addition to substitute teaching and officiating indoor and high school/collegiate track events.

Mr. Shaw is married to his wife Linda, a retired elementary teacher. Together they have two children: Logan, a teacher and coach at the Neosho School District, and Vanessa, a physical therapist for the Lee’s Summit School District.

We are proud to welcome Mr. Shaw back home for this special honor and look forward to celebrating with him at Homecoming 2025! 💚💛
