Chekh Ibrahim Niasse will be a 2022 graduate of Milan C-2 High School and is the son of Adjaratou Gaye and brother of Seynabou and Ahmet Niasse. His favorite activity to do with his family is spending time with them and having fun. His favorite childhood memory is going to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes play football when he was 8.
Chekh has been involved in Football (3), Basketball (4), Track (4), and Tech Intern (1) while at Milan C-2. He also received honors including: 1st Team All-Conference (2), 1st Team All District (2), KMZU Dream Team, 1st Team Media All-District, 1st Team Tri-River All-Tournament, 1st Team in the Milan Tournament, as well as MVP and Player of the Year at the District Tournament throughout his Basketball career at Milan C-2. The activity he enjoys most is basketball because it made him the player he is today and taught him how to become a leader for his team. His favorite high school memory is when he got the experience of going to the Final 4 his Sophomore year. It was a great time with the team that has become his family because of how close they became. He also says it’s rare for brothers to get to play on the same team and that having the opportunity to do that with his own brother was great.
The class Chekh enjoyed the most was PE because all of his friends are in that class with him and he loves competing with them. His biggest pet peeve is when people are doubting him. Outside of school, Chekh enjoys playing basketball, working out, and hanging with friends. If he had one wish it would be that he would have started training himself for basketball earlier. The three words that best describe him are loving, funny, and competitive.
After High School, Chekh plans to go to college to study criminal justice and hopefully play basketball at the college level. The coaches that had the biggest impact on Chekh are Mr. and Mrs. Dabney, Coach Cole, and Coach Duffy. He added, from the beginning they have always pushed him in sports to not get down on himself and to keep playing. Without their coaching, he doesn’t think that he would have become the leader and player he is today. Chekh says he has only known Coach Cole for two years, but he has a big impact on Chekh because he has always pushed Chekh to strive for what he wants no matter what is in front of him.
The thing Chekh Niasse will miss the most about Milan C-2 High School is playing basketball and the volleyball games in PE and celebration days because the games would get really competitive. He will also miss the elementary kids because he loves being around little kids and they inspire him so much. If there was one way he could be remembered at MHS, he would like for it to be him just being who he is, how he was raised, and how he treated people here at Milan C-2. The advice Chekh would give underclassmen is, “Always challenge yourself in anything you do and never let people get you. If your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough.”
